Display Ad Analysis: The Makings Of A Good Display Ad

Since we spend hours upon hours together on the internet every single day, it makes sense that we come across dozens of display ads. In most cases, we tend to ignore what a display ad is trying to tell us simply by scrolling past it. This doesn’t mean that the ad in question isn’t particularly interesting or attention-grabbing; it’s just that we collectively suffer from something known as banner blindness which inhibits our ability to view ads online.

Ad Analysis: Where A Display Ad Can Go Wrong

So the other day I was on a popular entertainment website (who doesn't love the odd piece of celebrity gossip now and then?) and I found myself falling straight into a whirlpool of Display Ads. Ever noticed how these sites tend to have many more display ads than most other sites do? Well, considering they receive a great amount of traffic from bored people like me, it's not surprising that various companies decide to place their ads on these sites.

Ad Review: What Makes A Good Display Ad

Today let’s talk about what makes a good Display Ad. However, sometimes, to go forward, we must first take a step back. In other words, to understand what makes a good display ad, it may be imperative to first understand what doesn’t…..or how about we understand both simultaneously?

Ad Analysis: When A Display Ad Is Less Than Perfect

The other day I was scrolling very productively through Instagram (okay, you got me, I was wasting time)... Well, whatever the reason, I was on Instagram and decided to look through some stories when I came across this ad.

Ad Review: When A Display Ad Doesn’t Get It Right

Since I spend hours upon hours on the internet every day (which one of us doesn't?), it's not often that I notice the Display Ads that I come across online. After all, there are several of these ads on each page we visit online and it could drive us up the wall if we were to register every single one of them. The worst of these ads are those that flash and change as you’re staring at them.

Ad Review: Analysing An Ineffective Ad

Over the past year, I may have viewed more Display Ads than I have in the years since I started actively using the internet. I come across so many ads a day in and day out that I initially believed I was tuning these out subconsciously and only focusing on the content I wanted to view (Ad Fatigue much?), both for work and for entertainment purposes. However, with time I've realized that this isn't true at all – I've been registering each ad I come across and have slowly developed a critical eye for these.

Display Ad Review: Proclaim Interactive’s award winning Ad

So the other day I was doing my pretty much daily visit to WordReference when I bumped into this Ad that I just knew I had to screenshot.

Ad Review: Why A Display Ad Could Be Ineffective

Most brands don't seem to see the opportunity they've been presented within the form of having users spend more time online and are guilty of creating uninspired, boring, and plain ineffective ads.

Are Typos In Ads Intentional?

If you’ve come across an ad while browsing the internet that features a glaringly obvious spelling mistake, your immediate instinct might be to check which brand the ad is from. And why shouldn’t you? An error as basic as a typo is not to be expected from reputed brands that spend a good chunk of their revenue on advertising expenditure each year.

That time someone sold a t-shirt on Amazon saying “Keep Calm and Knife Her”

Do you remember 2012? When awkward bangs, mustaches, and “Keep Calm and Carry On” were the main trends? Well, yes, very embarrassing, but also very true. So Michael came up with another brilliant idea: Compile a huge list of verbs to follow up the starting phrase “Keep Calm and…” and have his algorithm create very original catchy t-shirts. However, again, the human factor was not taken into consideration and so the internet (and specifically Amazon) ended up filled up with these sorts of things.

The Ad version of “do as I say, not as I do”

So what happens when we are going through a website and bump into this sort of Ads?
